SOYWATER
An irrigation scheduling decision tool created for Soy Producers!

If you have a high-speed internet connection, take advantage of a free web site tool that you can access 24/7 during this 2010 growing season to help you better schedule your soybean irrigation events. Or if you are not an irrigator, use it to track your crop's growth and water use during the growing season relative to rain events.

You need only provide four initial items to SoyWater:
  • where your field is located,
  • the date you planted the field, or better yet, the date the seedlings emerged (see picture below),
  • the Maturity Group number of your variety (stated in the brand number or available from your seed dealer),
  • and the predominant soil texture type in your field (SoyWater will help you determine that).

Thereafter, you just log in to tell SoyWater about rainfall and irrigation amounts. If you are also a Watermark soil water sensor user, SoyWater has a calculator that will translate a Watermark sensor readings into inches of soil water depletion, so that you will know not only when to trigger your first or next irrigation, but also how much water to apply to replenish the soil water depleted by the crop on the date of those readings.

SoyWater was developed by UNL researchers with funding support from your Soybean Check-Off dollars. To take advantage of what SoyWater can offer you, CLICK HERE and become one of the many registered SoyWater users around the State.
